The world's first service club, the Rotary Club of Chicago, Illinois, USA, was formed on February 23rd, 1905, by Paul P. Harris, an attorney who wished to recapture the same friendly spirit in a service club that he had felt in the small towns of his youth, created Rotary.

The name "Rotary" is derived from the early practice of rotating meetings among members' offices. Rotary International has grown over the past century and is now an association of over 31,256 Rotary clubs throughout the world, including every state of the U.S. and over 163 countries and geographical regions.

The Four-Way Test

Of the things we think, say or do

  • Is it the TRUTH?
  • Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  • Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
